Empowerment Begins at Home

Empowerment Begins at Home begins where all movements begin, not in the street, not in the legislature, but in the private space between two people who choose to be seen together. Cast in deep relief across a monumental steel-framed panel, dozens of raised fists rise from the glass surface, a visual record of every march, every vigil, every moment of public insistence that LGBTQ+ lives matter and belong. The fists vary in scale, in angle, in urgency. They are a crowd. They are history. They are ongoing.

At the base of that field, set within a frosted glass medallion, two small androgynous silver-plated heads lean toward one another, quiet, tender, entirely human. They are protected by everything above them, and they are the reason for it. The movement exists to protect what is most fragile and most essential: the ordinary, irreplaceable intimacy of two people who no longer need to hide.
